All I want for Christmas...

Every year I ask for the same thing for Christmas...socks.

Now I know that socks aren't as glamorous as, say, a diamond necklace. Okay, the Kay's Jewelers commercial might not be so catchy if it ended with "Every Kiss Begins with Socks." But it would work at my house.

The way I see it, holiday gifts should be all about those items you wouldn't normally buy for yourself--and high-quality socks top my list. Admittedly, most of the items on my wish-list for Santa this year are entirely practical. While I'd like to blame the economy for my fetish for unglamorous gifts, I've always asked for the unconventional at Christmastime.

Now you know my top request from Santa, what's yours?

  1. Books. Always books. I read so much fiction that it is hard to buy that sort of thing for me, but non-fiction titles on interestingly odd subjects are winners.

  2. Hmmm...suddenly I'm interested in things for my kitchen since we kind of backed into a kitchen facelift as a result of a leak. I'd like to find the perfect spice rack actually! That aside, jewelry is always a favorite :)

  3. Tee hee, I bought my daughter some socks for her stocking...

My top request? Peace of mind. Can Santa bring that?!

I actually don't want anything (that we can afford anyway...) for Christmas this year. I just want to have a nice day and for everyone to be content with our way-scaled-down recessionary celebration this year...

  4. I've been asking for socks in my stocking ever since I was little. Now I don't even have to ask. I get them every year from both my mom and my mom-in-law.

Other than that, I always ask for books. I go through them like wildfire, so I could always use more!

  5. Christmas is for kids (in my opinion). I like a day of going no where, no one coming here, kids totally happy with their gifts, eating decadent food all day long (w/no schedules), and just relaxing. That's a good Christmas for me.

  6. I desperately want a set of sheets that will actually stay on my mattress. I am tired of waking up in the night sleeping on bare mattress and I'm tired of tugging on the fitted sheet each night before I go to bed.

  7. I agree with you about gifts being things that you would not normally buy for yourself; special indulgences. Socks fit the bill!

  8. I asked Santa (aka my Mom) for cooking stuff. Not fancy appliances from William-Sonoma (though they are tempting), but a new pizza pan to replace my old one and a panini press so I can finally make Nutella-strawberry paninis. Hope you get what you want!

  9. You know, all of my socks have holes in them. I've somehow turned into my father. When we were kids, we used to joke that he was stuck in the late 60s, which is when he bought all of his clothes. His socks always had holes in them and we always got him socks for Christmas.

  10. Along with my socks, I'm with Jennifer. I'm looking forward to a scaled-down Christmas. But I must admit, I'm planning on doing plenty of baking!

  11. I'm the same as you. I find myself looking at really nice socks, new socks, but somehow can never justify actually buying them for myself. I don't know why. So it would be a great gift if someone else bought me some!
But along with everyone else commenting here, I am mostly wanting us to have a scaled down holiday full of love and peace this year.

  12. For Christmas, I always like a plushy new bathrobe and slippers to start the new off right!
